Google debuts Gemini for Business as tech firms seek to monetize AI investments

A new version of Google's powered by artificial intelligence workplace productivity apartment, Gemini for Workspace, was revealed on Wednesday (GOOG, GOOGL). As the two companies continue to fight for clients in the age of generative AI, the action is another shot at competitor Microsoft (MSFT). As an addition to its Workspace range of products, which already includes Gmail, Docs, Meet, Sheets, and Slides, Google has launched a new service called Gemini Business. The Gemini for Business costs $20 per user each month, which is $10 less than Microsoft's Copilot for Microsoft 365 and Google's current Gemini Enterprise. Gemini for Business extends Gemini's capabilities inside the Workspaces package to include document production, data analysis, email drafting help, and more. Additionally, it offers access to Google's Gemini solo version through a unique landing page that makes use of the Gemini Ultra big language model.

 

In addition to having the same functionality as Gemini for Business, Gemini for Enterprise can translate captions in Google Meet into more than 100 language pairs and will soon be able to take meeting notes on behalf of users.
There is no minimum user requirement for Gemini for Business or Gemini for Enterprise, so small and medium-sized firms as well as enterprises can join up for either service.

Additionally, Google states that no user discussions using Gemini for Business or Gemini for Enterprise will be examined by humans, used for advertising, or utilized for improving its algorithmic systems.

 Google also said that it is launching its Google One AI Premium package, Gemini for Business. The service gives user’s access to Google's Gemini Advanced, which is based on the business's Ultra 1.0 AI model, and expands the company's consumer productivity package with Gemini. In the upcoming weeks, the business claims to be working on making Gemini for Workspace available to users in the school sector.

Similar generative AI functionalities are available through Microsoft's Copilot for Microsoft 365, which is directly competitive with Google's Gemini for Business and Gemini for Enterprise. However, there are other options available as well. As the excitement surrounding the technology continues throughout the first few months of 2024, businesses are progressively implementing generative AI capabilities into their commercial goods. Slack, a CRM owned by Salesforce, unveiled its new AI agent earlier this month, which will allow users to get a summary of threads and channels. Wall Street is waiting for IT companies to demonstrate that their large investments in AI technology are beginning to produce returns. Microsoft has so far been able to demonstrate this to investors by stating that in its most recent quarter, AI services increased Cloud revenue by six percentage points. Comparing the previous period, that is a 3 percentage point gain. The company's Azure service and Intelligent Cloud division generated $25.8 billion in revenue. The AI mania has greatly benefitted Microsoft shares as well as Google parent Alphabet. Over the past 12 months, Alphabet's shares have increased 50%, while Microsoft's have increased 53%.
